Frequently Asked Questions

LNE Communications offers 100% fiber internet service to our residential and business customers. Fiber is the only technology we deliver — meaning every customer gets the same high-quality, high-speed connection regardless of their plan. We currently offer three fiber internet plans: our 250/250 Mbps plan, ideal for households with moderate internet usage; our 500/500 Mbps plan, designed for households that stream, game, and connect multiple devices at once; and our 940/940 Mbps plan, built for power users and data-heavy households that demand the absolute best performance. All plans are symmetrical, meaning your upload speeds are just as fast as your download speeds — a significant advantage over cable and DSL connections. Business internet service is also available; please call us at 563-678-2470 for business rates and options.

Fiber internet uses thin strands of glass or plastic — called optical fibers — to transmit data as pulses of light. This technology is fundamentally different from cable internet, which runs data through copper coaxial cables, and DSL, which transmits data over traditional telephone lines. Because light travels faster and experiences far less signal degradation than electrical signals through copper, fiber delivers significantly faster speeds, lower latency, and much greater reliability over long distances. One of the most important distinctions is that fiber internet is symmetrical — your upload and download speeds are equal. Cable and DSL connections typically offer upload speeds that are a fraction of their download speeds, which can be a real bottleneck when you’re video conferencing, uploading large files, backing up data to the cloud, or live streaming. Fiber also doesn’t suffer from the neighborhood congestion that cable networks commonly experience during peak hours. At LNE Communications, every plan we offer is delivered over our fiber network, so every customer benefits from these advantages.

Choosing LNE Communications means choosing a company that’s invested in your community. Unlike large national providers, we’re locally owned and operated, so when you call, you’ll speak with local people who know your community—not a distant call center. We offer 100% fiber internet with symmetrical speeds, no contracts, no data caps, transparent pricing, and fast local support. Most importantly, every dollar you spend stays in the communities we serve, helping support local jobs, community organizations, infrastructure improvements, and economic growth. We’re committed to providing exceptional service because we’re serving our neighbors.

LNE Communications offers three fiber internet speed tiers, all of which are fully symmetrical — meaning your upload speed matches your download speed exactly:

– 250/250 Mbps — Symmetrical 250 Mbps fiber internet, ideal for households with moderate internet usage such as browsing, streaming on a few devices, video calls, and everyday tasks.

– 500/500 Mbps — Symmetrical 500 Mbps fiber internet, an excellent fit for households that stream in 4K, game online, work from home, and connect numerous devices simultaneously.

– 940/940 Mbps — Symmetrical gigabit fiber internet, our fastest plan and the best choice for power users, large households with many simultaneous users, and anyone who demands the highest possible performance for gaming, streaming, downloading, and uploading large files.

All three plans come with an exceptionally low latency of just 8ms, no data caps, and no contracts.

The right internet speed depends on how many people are in your household, how many devices are connected at once, and what you’re doing online. Our 250/250 Mbps plan handles moderate households comfortably, while our 500/500 Mbps and 940/940 Mbps plans are designed for busier, more connected homes. To get a personalized speed recommendation based on your specific household, we encourage you to use the Bandwidth Estimator tool on our website — it walks you through your usage habits and helps you choose the plan that’s right for you. If you still have questions, our local team is always happy to help you decide — just call us at 563-678-2470.

Great news — fiber internet is widely considered the gold standard for online gaming, and LNE Communications delivers exactly that. Gaming performance is about more than just raw speed; latency (also called ping) is arguably the most important factor. High latency causes lag, which can make a real difference in fast-paced competitive games. All of our fiber plans deliver an ultra-low latency of just 8ms, so you’re starting with a serious advantage regardless of which plan you choose. In terms of speed, online gaming itself doesn’t require enormous bandwidth — but if you’re gaming while others in your household are streaming 4K video, jumping on video calls, or downloading large files, you’ll want enough headroom for everyone. Our 250/250 Mbps plan works well for dedicated gamers in smaller households, while our 500/500 Mbps plan is a popular choice for gaming households with multiple users. If you frequently download large game files, stream your gameplay, or live in a data-heavy household, our 940/940 Mbps gigabit plan gives you all the bandwidth you could need. For a personalized recommendation based on your specific gaming setup and household usage, check out the Bandwidth Estimator tool on our website — it helps match you with the perfect plan. You can also call us at 563-678-2470 and our local team will be happy to help.

Yes — absolutely. LNE Communications does not impose any data caps on any of our fiber internet plans. Whether you choose our 250/250 Mbps, 500/500 Mbps, or 940/940 Mbps plan, you can stream, download, upload, game, and browse as much as you want, every single day, without ever worrying about hitting a data limit, experiencing throttled speeds, or being charged overage fees. Unlimited data is a standard feature of every plan we offer — no fine print, no exceptions.

LNE Communications has been serving our communities since 1902, and reliability is something we take seriously. Our fiber network is designed to provide consistent, stable connectivity that cable and DSL connections simply can’t match. Because fiber uses light signals rather than electrical signals, it is far less susceptible to interference from weather, electrical noise, or physical degradation over time. All of our plans deliver a low latency of just 8ms, which reflects the consistent, high-quality performance of our fiber infrastructure. As a locally based company, our team is close to the communities we serve — Lost Nation, Elwood, and Oxford Junction — which means when issues do arise, we respond quickly and with genuine care for our neighbors. We also offer a Whole Home Maintenance Plan for added peace of mind.

Several factors set LNE Communication’s fiber internet apart from cable and DSL alternatives. First, fiber uses light to transmit data, which means it operates at speeds that copper-based technologies simply cannot reach. Second, our fiber network is symmetrical — your upload speed equals your download speed on all three of our plans. This matters enormously for video conferencing, cloud backups, live streaming, and remote work, where slow upload speeds can become a serious limitation. Third, fiber is not subject to the network congestion that cable customers often experience during peak evening hours, when many people in a neighborhood are online simultaneously. Fourth, fiber infrastructure is extremely durable and resistant to interference from electrical sources and weather conditions. Finally, with a latency of just 8ms across all our plans, LNE Communications delivers the low-ping, responsive connection that demanding users — gamers, remote workers, video conferencing households — depend on every day. Combined with our no-data-cap, no-contract policy and over 120 years of local service experience, that’s a combination that’s hard to beat.

– Elwood, Iowa — ZIP code 52254

If you live or operate a business in one of these communities, there’s a good chance fiber service is available at your address. To confirm availability or ask about service at a specific location, please contact our local office at 563-678-2470 or stop by in person at 304 Long Avenue, Lost Nation, Iowa 52254. When you sign up for fiber internet with LNE Communications, our local installation team will schedule a convenient appointment to bring fiber connectivity directly to your home or business. During the installation, a technician will run fiber cable to your location, install the necessary equipment to connect your network, and ensure that everything is working properly before leaving. Our team will walk you through how your service works and answer any questions you have. Because we’re a locally owned and operated company serving a tight-knit area, we treat every installation with the same care and attention we’d give our own neighbors — because many of our customers are exactly that. If you have questions about the installation process before you sign up, don’t hesitate to call us at 563-678-2470 or visit our office at 304 Long Avenue in Lost Nation.

To use LNE Communication’s fiber internet service, you’ll need a compatible router to distribute your Wi-Fi signal throughout your home or business. LNE Communications offers a Managed Wi-Fi service that includes the use of a GigaSpire router for just $7.95 per month. These are high-quality routers designed to work seamlessly with our fiber network, and they include access to the CommandIQ app, which lets you manage your network right from your smartphone — including setting up content filtering, monitoring usage, and controlling connected devices. If your home is larger or has areas with weaker Wi-Fi coverage, Wi-Fi extenders are available for an additional $2.95 per month each. You may also use your own router if you prefer — see our equipment FAQ below for more details. For customers who need a static IP address, that option is available for just $2.00 per month.
